                        Nitric oxide is not FDA approved...  Yet it is still in the (study) phase..  We use it in our childrens hospital ...  not for hypoxemia but for pulmonary   hypertension...It still requires strict   guidelines on its use and the need has   to be there...it is extremly expensive..  .We administer it in whats called PPM or   parts per million anywhere from one   being the least to 40ppm being the   highest dose....Nitric is an immediate   gas it gets in the system very, very   fast so the effect is immediate ...  We use it on alot of our hearts ...  and it does raise the Spo2......  But as always o2 is the first choice   for hypoxemia..
