My daughter just had a febrile seizure three days ago. I woke up at six a.m. and felt she was hot.I left her laying in my bed where she had been sleeping and got the motrin. She woke up and walked into the kitchen to find me. I gave her the medicine and sat down with her on the couch to take her temp. when she arched her back. Her eyes were fixed and she was stiff. I called my husband. We thought she was choking on the medication. We were patting her on the back to dislodge whatever it was. I called 911 and layed her down on the floor on her side. Her lips were turning blue although I don't believe she completely stopped breathing. The whole seizure lasted under two min. The parmedics said her temp was 100. When we got to the hospital and had some tests done we found that she has a urinary tract infection and an upper resp. infection. Her temp rose quickly was the reason given. We have talked to two doctors and have gotten somewhat conflicting stories about whether or not she might have any more seizures.We were told that if her temp ever gets above 99(axillary reading) to start with the fever reducing medication. We thank God it wasn't any worse and for waking me up that morning in time to "see it coming". I hope this note can be of some help to someone out there if only to let them know they aren't alone in this. My thanks to others who have written and have said it all turned out alright.
