Hi Joel; I've been diagnosed with IC for 19 years but probably have had it for many more. Unfortunately, there is no set of rules for everyone with IC; every case is different and what works for one person does not necessarily work for another. For some people the symptoms come and go but for others (me included) they never go away. Prozac is not a good choice of drug for IC. Amitriptyline is the drug of choice, along with Elmiron. I can't take Elmiron because I had a TIA and it, along with the medication to prevent future strokes, caused bruising all over my body. Talk to your urologist about your pain; there are other medications that can be given. Good luck.
