I am a speech-language pathologist working with a 20 month old little girl. She will fully extend both legs in a crossed position and bring her arms to her chest in a crossed position. Her muscles are extremely tight at these times. Her rate of breathing increases and she begins to perspire. Often times she appears to be in pain and/or discomfort. She has been to several doctors to try and find the reason for this type of "tensing". Some have said it is behavioral. This is definitely not behavioral as this appears to happen involuntarily without any antecedent event. After consultation with a developmental pediatrician, a neurologist has recently introduced a possible diagnosis of dystonia. This little girl is not on compazine, however,could you please e-mail me the list of medications that can induce dystonia as well as any other information that may be helpful to this family.
