I also have this condition quite regularly it seems. I have tried about everything, but my doctor finally gave me Acyclovir, which is actually an antiviral drug used for herpes. It has helped, and I try to keep it on hand. He told me it is caused by times of high stress. It is very annoying though. I hope this helps.
