Your concern was rather interesting to me because I too have a son with what I feel is a speech disorder and I'm told in most cases that my child has a behavior and/or possibly a mental disorder. He is 3 years of age and does not speak at that level. I have contributed most of his problem to the fact that he had/has chronic sinus/allergy problems...since birth. He had tubes placed in his ears and adenoids taken out at the age of one. This alone I feel IS THE MAJOR REASON HE DOES NOT SPEAK AS WELL AS THE AVERAGE CHILD HIS AGE. Not to mention genetics...my husband is a rather quite by nature type of fellow. Our 6year old son manages to get the 3 year old to say anything and almost everything. THIS IS A GREAT ASSEST.
