How is it possible that an 18yr.9mo old girl can be diagnosed w/PID when she has only had one sexual encounter at 15yrs old and used a condom. The encounter did not result in pregnancy. She has not been sexually active since then and only recently developed abdominal pain. She had a biopsy about 4mo ago that showed nothing abnormal and she was given a clean bill of health. Apparently, yesterday at work she was so overwrought w/pain she could barely stand it, and ended up in the ER last night about 12am. They said PID, gave her a shot (I don't know what), vicadin, and some other medication. They also cath'd her and said her urine was fine, and she did not have a fever. She has an apt w/the family dr 06/14. I will be asking him for a referral to a gyn specialist for her. Can you please give me your opinion. Thank you/Judy
