I had the same problem. The ONLY thing you can do is to stop ingesting milk products! (I hated that, as I am hooked on milk!) The long & short of it is that since cows milk protien is transmitted through breast milk, YOU can't have any if you wish to continue to nurse & have a happy/healthy baby too! After this experience, I also prepared myself just in case the next baby was also LI, & stopped the milk products before my due date, then after I was home with the new baby & had settled into a routine, I started drinking milk again & watched for symptoms of LI in him (Note that LI symptoms are not always the same in different individuals). I'm happy to report that he was NOT intollerant, & I succesfully nursed him for many months with a glass of milk in front of me! DO KEEP UP YOUR CALCIUM INTAKE IF YOU DROP MILK PRODUCTS. THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE AS YOUR BODY MANUFACTURES MILK FOR YOUR BABY, IT WILL PULL CALCIUM FROM YOUR CALCIUM STORES IF THERE IS NO OTHER SOURCE. (This is one reason why women in third world countries, for example, suffer broken hips & other bone fractures so easily at VERY early ages, like their mid 20's!) TUMS worked well for me, but this was several years ago, so DO consult your doctor or baby's pediatrician for the best source and amounts needed to fill that requirement! Happy Nursing! (You can drink milk when the kids are in high school!!!) :-)
