I have had/have a similar disturbance with my vision. It is a shiny "pinwheel" that usually manifests in either eye. It doesn't happen all the time. I discussed this with my eye doctor and he said it may be an "aura" before I get a bad headache and asked that I keep a record of when it occurs and it does in fact happen prior to a headache. This may not be your problem and I would certainly investigate it further.
