Tim I had cataract surgery 5/14/2001. My vision got worse instead of better. Five days after surgery (I was doing fine) I had pain. The after care meds I believed caused it. My doctor too says "he's mystified, he's never seen this before". It doesn't give you the warm fuzzies. My vision is now coming back slowly. BUT I have dry eye syndrome which I'm told is permanent. I went in for one thing and came out (in my opinion) worse. PAIN. If your father isn't in pain that may be the only blessing. I didn't have this before the surgery. I pray that your dad gets a real and good answer and hope by now he is healing. Sorry my experience not the same wish I could help and maybe even have a better answer for you. The Corneal Research Center back East game me a name for a second opinion when I wrote them. They repsonded in 24 hours. Explain your problem to them and they may know someone who can give you more concise answers. Hope this can help.
