Last March I was suddenly hit with tinnitus and profound hearing loss. I went to my family doctor, an audiologist, and a specialist. The hearing loss and tinitus are permanent. There is no explanation for the hearing loss or tinitus. I was just told to learn to ignore it and be grateful that it is only one ear. I am praying for new medical advances to discover a cure or at least a way to control the tinnitus. After 12 months of living with this every second, I know that it is not something that can be ignored, no matter what the doctors say! BTW I am 25 years old and had perfect hearing and few ear infections prior to the sudden onset.
