Shelly, My son was diagnosed with alpha thalassemia trait at 2yrs. He is 16 now.I was worried like you, but other than a tendancy to sleep a little more than the rest of us he has been healthy and seems to show no signs of the disorder. I was looking on this site to see if there was any new treatments for the mild anemia he has since it cannot be treated with iron supplements. so besides getting extra sleep, hes perfectly normal. hope this helps ease your mind!
