                        I was diagnosed last week with labyrinthitis, then visited my ear surgeon who also specializes in balance disorders.  She recommended that I try Bonine, an over the counter motion sickness drug, and drink lots of fluids.  This helped me greatly.  She also wrote a prescription for Librium 5mg to be taken daily at bedtime instead of the Bonine if the Bonine made me too drowsy.  She reports that labyrinthitis is usually a viral infection that must run its course, with mild symptoms remaining for up to 6 weeks.  The other primary cause seems to be chronic middle ear problems.  There was no mention of caffeine or salt restriction.
