Chris
Dear Cheryl, Yes! People do survive ovarian cancer - i'm one of them! My problem is genetic - quite serious too. I have now had breast cancer twice and ovarian cancer once. On 22 Aug 2001 i had my remaining ovary removed as a precautionary measure. Unfortunately ovarian cancer is referred to (here in the UK anyway)as the silent killer and unfortunately detection is very difficult. I survived due to my cancer being completely encapsulated within the ovary and therefore cells did not escape into the peritonium. Sadly most ovarian cancers are not detected until the situation is,usually, but not always untreatable to any great effect. The only advice i can offer you is to be there for your sister, be constantly positive and keep your own chin up too! I wish you and your sister the very very best. Kind regards. Christine
