I had this problem for many years until I finally figured out what was wrong--for me. It comes about due to dry skin, particularly in the winter, which is then irritated by scratching. Using the towel after a shower particularly to rub and scratch the skin has a negative effect. Pat yourself dry with the towel, do not use it in a back and forth motion. In my case, large parts of my body erupted in small red bumps. Remedy? use a barrier cream daily until moisture builds up in the skin. Be sure to use a barrier cream after using the pool, hot tub, or shower. Try not to scratch, and if you do, make sure your fingernails are trimmed. If it becomes completely unbearable, I found a steriod shot from the physician helped to get over the rough period. Let me know if these ideas helped. No longer itching in N.C.
