I'm 25 and I still suck my thumb. Luckily, I only suck my thumb once in awhile (two or three times a month), and then only for five minutes - usually until my teeth start to hurt. I've read that some people suck their thumbs when they're asleep, and so can't really control themselves. I can control myself, and suck my thumb because I like to. (Well, actually, it's not as if I'm entirely in control: I get this sort of throbbing in my mouth and the only way to cool it out is to put my thumb in my mouth.) The only person who knows that I suck my thumb is my husband, who thinks it's a bit strange, but accepts it. In fact, I usually suck my thumb when I'm cuddling with him, watching TV or something. It makes me absolutely relaxed; I become almost meditative. I'm not an expert on the subject, but based on what I've read, it's not that bad a habit.... Type in "adult thumb sucking" in a search engine, and you'll probably turn up a number of interesting things. Good luck!
