I am just getting over my iritis in my left eye(5/03/01). This is my 3rd instance. I am 35 years old and had my 1st occurrence after having my colon out 3 years ago due to uncontrollable ulcerative colitis. The 1st time it was treatable with Pred Forte and Homatropine & probably lasted about 3 weeks. The 2nd time I caught it early and it was gone in about 1 week. This time it has lasted 3 mo. and it was quite bad. After trying the Pred Forte drops every hour and the Homatropine twice a day, I still needed to have a steroid injection under my eyelid. Then I developed an allergy to the preservative(benzalkonium chloride) in the eye drops. So the opthamalogist and optometrist switched me to an ointment called AK-CIDE. I was using it every hour and am now down to only once a day and no homatropine drops right now. I hope it doesn't flare up again. It gets so depressing. I've been exercising, trying to eat right, and taking antioxidants like Ocuvite with lutien, ginger, flax oil capsules, soy, Omega-3 fatty acid capsules, and Eyebright capsules. I'm just praying I don't get another autoimmune disorder. Good Luck! Let me know if I can answer any questions for you. Thanks for listening, Vicki
