An epidermoid cyst found in my head by an MRI. My cyst was benign and was also told I probably had it since birth. My cyst was causing no symptoms, but it was shown on the MRI to be eroding on the bone of my skull. 2 different surgeons recommended I have it removed as I was young (44), in good health, and surgery would be easier to handle now rather than later in life. No one could tell me if leaving it would ever cause me problems. I did opt for surgery and the cyst was larger than appear on the MRI taken 2 months earlier. The bone was paper thin, so they could not replace it and it was putting pressure on the brain and had damage some cells. Recover went extremely well with very little pain. Overall I fell I made the right decision for me. I just had a 7 month check up and CT scan (my idea, but the surgeon agreed it is good to verify they got it all and nothing was regrowing). The other option I weighed was to have a periodic CT or MRI scan to find out how fast it was growing and predict if and when it would ever cause me problems.
