My seven year old had his tonsils and adnoids out at the end of April. My suggestions are LOTS of fluids (my son did best with plain water, gatorade and popsicles). I had thought that by seven days or so that he would be back to normal but he still wouldn't eat solid foods. On about the ninth day after surgery he began eating again. Keeping a cool air vaporizer in his room may help too. The throat seems to get dry while they sleep and be more painful. He would also wake up screaming during the night. The pain medication our doctor prescribed also helped him (especially at night). Don't worry. He will get back to normal!! It is definitely worth it too. My son has not been sick since having his out and he had been getting strep or other throat infections every few weeks or so. Hang in there!!!!!!!! -Tammy
