Dried blood that is infected with hep is contagious still. You should not share razors, nail clippers, lancets, pierced earings anything that could have dry blood on it. A member of my family has had this for twenty years, (C and the anitibodies for B) without knowing it or passing it on, so it is contagious but there is no reason to panic. I was under the impression a high protein diet would not be good for a patient with hep? Especially a diet with red meat in it, but I could be mistaken. There is a book written by Dr Melissa Palmer on hep. that talks about diet. It's important not only for your liver but for your blood sugar. Patients on interferon are having a tendency to develope diabetes. The doctor should do PCR tests to see what viral load your son is at and more regularly his ALT levels.
