There is a book on parasitic infections by A. Gittleman called "Guess Who Came to Dinner". (Available at Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.) In it she gives descriptions of symptoms and also treatment approaches. (I also think she gave a list of parasitologist contacts but I am not sure about this.) I think you are right to suspect a parasite. I hope the information helps.
