I am 47 and have been hospitalized twice with perforations from diverticulitis. I have also had numerous diverticulitis attacks over the past 1 1/2 years. I was under the impression that a partial colectomy could be performed, but a barium enema w/post evacuation study shows pouches(ticks) through the mid third of the transverse colon. I am being advised to have a total colectomy. Might I have any other choices?
