My son had his tonsils out 2 weeks ago, he's 19 years old, and he's doing really well. The hospital staff told him to eat as much "hard" food as possible, such as toast, biscuits etc. This helps to scrape away any debris on the tonsil beds. Also, clean your teeth and gargle with mouthwash after eating. Good luck, I hope this helps!
