If you have acid reflux and it is severe you can have surgery to fix this in most cases. Sometimes you can have this on an out patient basis. If not you need to control this acid because you do not want this turn into Barretts esphogus, where the lining in your esphogus changes. I have been told that there is no fixing Barretts. Barretts makes people a higher risk for esphogeal cancer, and they have to be checked usually on an annual basis.
