My daughter has been on Elmiron for the past 3 months and has found the bladder pain to be half as bad as it was before. The doctors thought she had IC, but she has "Vaginismus" because of a hormonal imbalance from being on the birth control pill "Triphasil" for 4 years. Her brain had shut down the production of Estrogen after she stopped taking the Triphasil. Her Urologist has her on Elavil at bedtime to relieve the pain and help her sleep. She was on Oxycontin only when she really needed it, but she went off that. After a Cysto and Laparoscopy, which were normal, a Pelvic Floor Pain Specialist told her about the Hormone imbalance she has and now her inflamed insides (including the bottom of the bladder and urethra and uterine floor)have to heal, which will take months with the help of an estroidol cream. Thank goodness for the pain specialist! He saved her life! Hope this helps!
