I am now in the final stage of recuperation from an AAA Repair. All is going well and I am almost feeling normal again since the surgery on October 17, 2002. Going back to April 2002, a nurse in Internal Medicine scheduled me for a Stress test. I failed it and suddenly found myself in a wheelchair being rushed to a surgical ward. Following a cardiac catherization, it was discovered that I had severe blockages in the heart and also had an aneurysm measuring a little over 5 ct. The heart had to be resolved first so I had a quadruple bypass on May 7th. On July 30th I had a AAA Repair which was aborted because the surgeons found a suspicious looking infection on the bowel. Home to recuperate. On October 17th, the AAA Repair was successfully done. It was a 6 1/2 hour surgery. I couldn't have the more non-invasive procedure now commonly used because my veins were too small. However, I am happy to report that I am feeling well - the incisions are healing and while I showed no symptoms of ANY problems I had a nurse who said that heart problems often presented differently in women than men. I can't tell you how grateful I am for the care and expertise I received. I am 73 and looking forward to a hearty and healthy future.
