Hi, I had my first attack of Diverticulitis in November of 1996. From the information I have accessed, it mainly occurs in older people. I understand that it is from lack of fiber in the diet. I was 37 in 1996 and I now am 41. I will be having surgery as a result of the re-occurring attack. I am scheduled to have it January 6, 2000. You may be able to avoid surgery if you start adding more fiber to your diet, but see if your doctor will refer you to a rectum colon surgeon and you may be able to control it before you need surgery. Let me know how you make out. NubianQ
