Heather- I was 44 when I first had a high sed rate, pain and tiredness. At that time the doctors did not have name for what was the matter with me. I suffered for a few years, taking anti-inflammatories etc., until symptoms went away. Now at 65, it began again- a sed rate of 100. I started with 40 mg of Prednisone- am now down to 7 mg. (today) Last week I was on 6 mg and became very symptomatic again. Since starting the Prednisone I have gained 35 pounds. It helps the symptoms, but I really do not think it is the ultimate answer. However, since PMR is not supposed to be life-threatening, I don't believe there will be research funds for it. Hang in there. I find that lots of rest helps.
