Yikes! I am not a dr but I have to tell you that if you are even slightly reactive, that doesn't seem like the best idea. (None of this pertains to those with diabetes since their situation is different.) You should try to eat a good amount of protein at each meal. What works for me is 60% protein and 40% carbs. What happens in hypoglycemia is this: When you eat something sweet, the pancreas sends out insulin in response to help break down the sugars. In hypoglycemia, the problem is that the pancreas puts out way too much insulin and it eats away the sugar you ate and then some. So you wind up with less sugar than you started out with. Basically this is what is happening in most cases. So to avoid sweet things (even naturally sweet things)is the key. HOwever, for some people (not myself) only in an emergency (like when you are feeling symptoms: sweating, chills, shakes, faint, etc.) they have to get the blood sugar up temporarily to avoid it going lower which is very dangerous. HOWEVER, after drinking the sweet stuff, you need to eat something with protein (within about 5-10 minutes) to help stabilize the blood sugar again or you'll be right back where you started or worse. So, sweet stuff in emergencies only- otherwise avoidance is what most people find to be best. It's tough but you'll be amazed at how much better you feel.For myself, I must avoid anything sweet at all costs and just be meticulous with my diet-eating 4-6 times a day and never ever miss a meal. Try to never let more than 3 hours pass without eating and you will probably feel better overall. I am currently trying to do research on hypoglycemics whose symptoms are so severe that ingesting or receiving sugar/dextrose causes seizures/convulsions as this is my situation. So for protein: eggs, cheese, meats (preferrably low fat), seeds, nuts, beans (they do have some sugar so eat with caution). Avocados are supposed to be good because they contain a 7 carbon sugar that suppresses insulin production. Please feel free to email me privately if you need more help.
