Hi Ann, I've had pretty much every antibiotic available over 25 years of infections. my understanding is that if you can clear the infection by whatever means (which may be a combination of things like medication, acupuncture, nasal washing, surgery, optimism, etc) you can probably clear your sinuses. with two caveats: you may suffer from a disease of the mucosal lining, which makes you vulnerable to repeat infections and also very slow to heal once you get sick. secondly, you may be around people a lot, which is a big risk factor for transmission of viruses (from sneezing, coughing, etc). so you really have to assess the whole situation to manage chronic sinus problems. very frustrating if you can't just isolate yourself when it's flu time or your family catch things. for what it's worth, doxycycline (known as Doryx or Vibramycin in Australia) works best for me, altho' I have to take long courses of it. nasal washing is very helpful also, getting rid of some of the extra junk which accumulates. I use a solution of salt water plus bicarbonate of soda, recommended by my specialist. I hope this information is helpful to you.
