There are many factors that would determine whether your blood pressure medication will be life-long for you. One of the first things to try is reducing your intake of salt and other high sodium foods. Reducing your weight, if you are over-weight, can be a big contributor to getting of HBP meds. I take the same medication and after dropping a few unneeded pounds, I was able to stop the medicine. A few years later, I regained the weight and went back on the medication. Again I lost weight, but could not go off my medication. I have a long family history of high blood pressure and with age it has become more difficult to manage by diet alone. I started meds in my early 30's and now at 45, I have accepted my medication will probably be life-long for me. You still need to watch your diet and get exercise at least 3 times a week. The meds may remain necessary, but you will feel more energetic and healthy.
