I was diagnosed in January, 1999 with relapsing-remitting MS. It took me until March, 2000 to acknowledge that I have this disease. I have tried Betaseron (and stopped 3 months into it because I was allergic to it) and then Copaxone (had severe chest pains and couldn't breathe which is a side effect 3 months into it). I started taking Avonex last week. My first symptoms of MS(that I am aware of ) started in 12/96. I have 1 or 2 exacerbations per year and I am afraid of the progression of this disease. I know it is a very individualized disease but most of the literature I read is pretty depressing. I am very independent and can't imagine having to depend of everyone else to help me out. Has anyone had this disease 10+ years without a great deal of progression? Any answers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
