Joyce I was diagnosed with the Budd Chiari Syndrome(Portal Vein Thrombosis)in 1999 after a 19hr flight from South America. I was told that half my liver was dead because of clotting of the Vena Cava. A Portal Schuntz was inserted in me after 10hrs. major surgery. The Portal Schuntz did not work 100% and in Oct. 2000 I was given a liver transplant. I feel great and I hope that you don't get to this point and have to go through a liver transplant. I was told by the top liver specialists in Canada that my Budd Chiari is a very rare disease and only a small percent of people in the world have it. I don't have a lot of information about this disease, all I can tell you that i have it and that thanks to my new liver Iam alive. Please don't feel like this will happen to you everybody has different symptons and doctors have other ways of dealing with it and a liver transplant is the last thing they would do in case everything else fails.I live in Vancouver, Canada and please feel free to share any information you mught have regarding this illness.
