My son has a shunt for hydrocephalus that he has had since birth. He had a period where the shunt failed and he got sick. We took him to the ER twice in a 2 week period and they sent us home telling us it was the flu. They did CT scans but ended up comparing them to a time when his shunt had not been working so they missed it. Ever since this episode, he has had seizures and significant learning delays (especially memory and language). The Dr.s tell us that these delays are not a result of the hydro (I think to prevent us from seeking legal advice). Does anyone out there have any similar experience with hydrocephalus or brain injury causing seizures and developmental problems?
