What a surprise to get a message on my email about a post on this site. It was 2000 when mine was posted. Since then, I have had another DVT in the lt leg - due to trauma. Ran into a desk at work while turning around on my swivel chair and major briuse happened with subsequent clot. Hospital again with heparin drip and coumadin. Remained on the coumadin for a year and had to stop it for a cervical fusion. ( The migraines are gone - yeah!) The pre op nurse wasn't doing very well the morning before surgery and it took several failed attempts before getting a good venipuncture for the IV. When I left the hospital 48 hrs later I told the neurosurgeon that the left arm was sending out signals of DVT. I really don't think he thought I was serious although he was aware of the coumadin being stopped for the surgery. "Go home & do a hot moist heat & you'll be ok." I told him I'd be talking to him in a few days. He was nonplussed after I had a doppler and there was clot # 4. By that time I was back on the coumadin. All my doctors are aware at this point that it is for life. Sure hope I am finished with surgeries so I don't have to deal with the challenge of heparin and packed cells in order to have a procedure done. Have been there - done that - don't want to repeat it. I am doing well with the coumadin and a prothrombin time about once a month. No residual pain at any of the clot sights or in the chest.
