Severe cramps can be a symptom of other problems associated with menses. First have a complete physical. Ask for complete blood work that includes thyroid tests. A thyroid problem can cause such problems and is often overlooked. Your thyroid produces hormones and the menses is a hormonal change. I suffered for years as a teen and was told that was just life. It doesn't have to be. At age 50 I had to have a complete hysterectomy; later learned that it could have been the thyroid problem which I did not know I had until 10 years later. Good luck.
