                        Severe cramps can be a symptom of other problems associated with menses.  First have a complete physical.  Ask for complete blood work that includes thyroid tests.  A thyroid problem can cause such problems and is often overlooked.  Your thyroid produces hormones and the menses is a hormonal change.  I suffered for years as a teen and was told that was just life.  It doesn't have to be.  At age 50 I had to have a complete hysterectomy; later learned that it could have been the thyroid problem which I did not know I had until 10 years later.  Good luck.
