Huntingtons Disease is passed from parents to children. Each child gets one "instruction" (DNA) from Mom and one from Dad. If Mom has HD (she will have one set of effected instructions and one set of non-effected that she got from her parents) she will pass one set of the instructions to you, giving each child a 50% chance of inheriting HD. It is not gender specific and does not skip generations (although allot of families feel it had until more education helped to clarify). There are many resources that can help you and your family, try your local Huntingtons Disease Society of America (HDSA) for starters. Feel free to e-mail me if you need more help. Good luck and you are not alone!
