                        Same thing happened to me - quit smoking after  20 yrs and BANG....hypothyroidism!  I work in   a medical lab and have watched my thyroid hormome  levels for years - always well within the normal -  remove the nicotine stimulant, and look what happened.  My doctor theorizes that the nicotine was supplementing  the TSH function and acting to stimulate the Thyroxine  production although I have not been able to find  any medical literature to support his theory. Face it,   in the big picture, it beats lung cancer.
