Stormy, You said that your son is still in a coma and that you have him at home? Did they discuss "coma stimulation treatment " with you at all? My husband was in a car accident that left him in a coma. After several weeks of no voluntary movements, when I say that I mean that he would not move if you asked him to however he would posture constantly, which is very scary. They told me that that is a sign of severe brain damage. We then were refered to a in home facility where he stayed and got coma stimulation. It was great, they worked with him all the time, they told me that he would be there 3-6 months. When he first got there it took five people to move him from the gurney to the bed (he is a good sized man and he lifts weights)and then three weeks later he was able to walk (with assistants) down the hall. It was the greatest thing I could ever experience. As far as knowing when or how he will be when he comes out. I imagine everyone is different, but as for my husband it was very slow. The first thing he did was move one eye lid and that is all he would do for several days. Then he would open it more and only do that for several days. The best thing to do from my experience anyway is be there. Talk to him, put the tv on, stimulate him as much as you can, pictures whatever you can. Don't give up. It's hard belive me my husbands accident was just before christmas and I am a young mother of two. Christmas day my youngest was running around with a gift wanting her daddy to open it. I thought I was going to lose it, but then he finally came home on my oldest childs birthday. That's all she wanted. I was happy to be able to give it to her. Now you would never even know that it happened, he is back to work and everything. I can tell a difference and there are side effects, but if you didn't know him before you would never think any different. However, I wish that his temper would calm down. That was the worst part he has no able to produce ceratonin and if he forgets his meds he is unbarable but I am just glad to have him here and ok. I wish you the best of luck with your son and please feel free to email me anytime I would love to talk to someone who is in the same situation as I. thanks for your time
