Pam... I work with clients who have spinal cord injuries. We use a bowel program every other day. First we go in and remove any stool that is reachable. Then we insert a Dulcolax suppository and use digital stimulation. In about 45 mins, we again check rectally and remove any stool and again digitally stimulate. After about 45 mins longer, we repeat the same, check for any stool, remove, stimulate. Usually this is the end of the bowel program...I know it seems like a long time...also be sure to increase your fiber intake as well as fluids. I prefer natural things like flax seed and flax seed capsules, and of course fruits and vegs. Hope this helps you.
