I was hoping to discuss with someone what options there are for someone who was diagnosed at the age of 35 years of age with hydrocephalus with obstuctive stenosis. Why would this condition suddenly appear so late in life since everything I've read seems to point to it being a childhood condition. I have tried a variety of herbal, cleansing... avenues and find that my symptoms have not improved any. I have a headache from morning til night, nausea, dizziness and most troublesome is that the right half of my body is so numb at times that I am unable to do many of the activities I used to be able to do. An MRI and subsequently a CT Scan disgnosed this condition and was told by a neurosurgeon that a shunt would be the only option. Also, I was told by my doctor that I could do an exploratory procedure called an "icm" which would be done over a 48 hour period, I would be hooked up to a monitor which would tell us where the pressure is most concentrated and perhaps relieve some of the pressure while in there - it would give me a definite answer to the shunt or no shunt question. I realize I am rambling on but my symptoms are getting worse and I am starting to feel anxious about making a decision about a procedure I don't fully understand and thought if I could speak to someone who's had a shunt put in later in life with the same condition, I would be very thankful???????
