I was experiencing urinary tract infections for a good part of my life. The drinking of a lot of water did relieve symptoms, but it did not take away my infection. Getting a urine sample tested, to see if you have an infection, can save you a lot of trouble and possibly more pain later. If you do have an infection it can be treated and if it goes untreated it can go into a kidney infection and lead to other problems. Take it from one who learned the hard way. I ended up seeing a urologist and he told me that it is important to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day (besides the other intake of liquids that you normally do) even when you don't have signs of an infection. Doing this has helped me a lot.
