My son is 16 years old. His first spontaneous pnoumothorax happen on 8/22/00. He spent 4 days in the hospital where a chest tube was inserted. Thirty-three days later on 9/25/00 he had a second pnumo. They did surgery to try to make his lung stay up. He spent 7 days in the hospital but his lung collasped immediately after they removed the chest tube which was 4 days after surgery. This time the lung repaired itself with no chest tube needed. The fourth time was on 11/21/00. He was hospitalized for 8 days with another chest tube. The next step if it happens is surgery to remove part of his lung and staple the remainder of his lung to the chest wall. They told us that it happen because he is a tall (6'3")thin male who is very althetic. Who knows?
