Peg
I read your note and could relate. My son is 10 and has had encopresis all his life. It took us a couple years to get our pediatrican to refer us to a pediatric gastroenterologist where we got a correct diagnosis. My advice would be to find a pediatric gastroenterologist at the nearest major medical center. Also ask them or your pediatrician about a relatively new medication called "Mirilax" a odorless, tastless powder, medication used to try and keep the child 'regular'. It has helped some with my son. Although we too are still searching for a dr who can treat it more effectively and help us resolve it. At this age it is very difficult emotionally and with school and peers.
