I have Hydrocephelus and have 3 shunts. Knock on wood, all has been going well. From the many posts I have seen, if a shunt is not put in properly, the shunt can hurt at the spot where it was placed or the spot where it drains. Also, if it is not working properly, you may have other symptoms. Hydrocephelus symptoms are vomiting and major headaches. If the shunt wasn't working, those symptoms would return. That is how I would know that something is wrong. Also, your doctor can feel the shunt and can tell if it's draining properly or if something else might be wrong. I too have very little energy but it's probably from Hydrocephelus and not the shunts.
