Christine
I was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 5, and wore a Milwauke brace, than a Boston brace from age 9 through 14. I had spinal fusion surgery when I was 14 years old. My curve advanced to 50 degrees before the surgery. The curve was corrected to 35 degrees, and remained steady through my last check-up (about 10 years ago). I am now 36. I have had four successful pregnancies, the first when I was 26. My fourth child was born almost a year ago. I am considering having a fifth child! I too was worried about having children. I spoke with my OBGYN before getting pregnant. He told me that the fusion would actually make my back stronger during the pregnancy. I did experience back pain during the pregnancy, but it seemed to be no worse than my friends who had children.
