Hello! This is the 1st time posting a question regarding a health related issue. I'm 33 yrs. old with Hypothyroidism originally diagnosed by my OB/GYN, May, 00. Original Hypo symptoms became apparent about 10 months after the birth of my 1st baby. My GYNO ran the 1st TSH test resulting in 5.14 (which I believe is a sub-clinic al case). It was not very high, but my fatigue was severe. I had experienced severe hair loss, and insomnia at night. I've been on .05mg Levoxyl ever since. I went to an Endocrinologist for the 1st time recently and tested positive for Hashimoto's Antibodies. The endo upped my Levoxyl dosage to 75mcg and added Cytomel 25mcg to my treatment.During the cold months,I exhibit cold hands/feet. My energy level is much better, and my insomnia seems to be better. Knowing my history, here are my questions: 1. What causes the body to produce these "antibodies", and is there any ways to control them? Is is possible a pregnancy causes Hashimoto's? Are antibodies inherited? 2. Are their short/long term side effects to synthetic hormones vs. natural substances? ie: Levoxyl or Cytomel vs. Armour 3. Is the added T3 (Cytomel) suppose to eleviate cold hands/feet? 4. Are there any associations between Hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's and Ectopic pregnancies? 5. Could a low production of Progesterone be responsible for irregular menstrual cycles and irregular ovulation instead of Thyroid deficiencies? I know I have asked a ton of questions but would REALLY appreciate any reply. THANKS!! Lisa K
