I am a 38 year old woman that has been daiagnosed with SMS. It has taken almost 3 years to come to this diagnosis. After being assessed and evaluated by several physicians and some tests. I became very frustrated and invalidated, because i knew that there was something wrong with my body and i couldnt get a physician until now to really listen and do all possible tests and referrals to specialized physicians to come to this diagnosis. I am not pleased with this diagnosis but i do feel validated. It became so frustrating to me because i couldnt find no one that had an answer and it came to the point that my family and friends thought that there was nothing wrong with me.It even came to a point because i was able to ambulate with a walker before diagnosis, but my walker was even taken away from me because my family and friend said i didnt need it that this is what my problem is. I wont go into all the horror stories of the problems myself and my son have had to deal with related to SMS. But i do have a question. I am a nurse and these symptoms initiated within 2 weeks after a fall i received at my place of employment. I do have all the classic symptoms even the violent spasms that have thrown me across the room. And because of those i have received several related injuries due to SMS.After a friend finding me a physician that would listen he not only performed every possible test to rule out other diseases, he referred me to a neurologist and with 1 test they performed they found that there is something wrong. So i am thankful to God and the physicians that listened and now have especially the violent spasms under control almost totally with the medication Valium. But my question is can i go back to my nursing or do i have to find another type of employment? I do take several medications related to SMS and can ambulate with a walker. So am i employable? Thank you for reading this and please send any replies regarding this or if i can be of any assistance to anyone else out there, email me.
