I had gallstones with severe pains. I had a laparoscopic chlolecystectomy 3 years ago. Meaning the gallbladder and stones were remove using a laparoscope. There were 4 small incisions aroung the abdomen. Spent one day in the hospital. Gallstones usually indicates the formations of stones in the gallbladder. The gallstones sometimes can block the bile duct or pancreatic duct. When it blocks the bile duct the bile is not released into the stomach, your fatty food is not digested, causing pain. If the stones blocked the pancreatic duct, one developes pancreatitis, which is also very painful and can be fatal if not treated. Don't want to scare you. See a surgeon that specializes in laparoscopic surgery. Good luck.
