Hi Jim, I am currently seeing a psychiatrist. An MD will not be up to date on the latest medication for depression. I saw an MD for 2-3 years before seeking a psychiatrist. I wish that I had not spent so long with the MD. Also, a psychologist can only do counseling. I firmly believe that it can be beneficial for everyone to talk to someone, but medication has to be managed by an MD or a psychiatrist. Also, if money seems to be a problem in seeking care, contact your local MHMR (mental health/ mental retardation) center. They can help you with financial services, even for mild depression. Good luck to you.
